Founded in 1925, Myer Family Investments (MFI) is a private investment company.
Our shareholders are members of the Sidney and Merlyn Myer family and related entities.
We are long-term investors with a global, multi asset class portfolio.
MFI invests directly and in partnership with high quality, like-minded investors.
MFI was established in 1925 by Sidney Myer, the founder of the Myer Stores department store chain.
Sidney Myer’s story as a young Jewish migrant from Krichev, in the southern Russian state of Belarus, to Bendigo in the late 1800’s is well known in Australia. Sidney Myer built the Myer Stores empire and a philanthropic legacy which is now entering its fifth generation.
Sidney Myer died in 1934 at age fifty-six, leaving ten percent of his wealth to The Sidney Myer Fund and the balance of his wealth invested in MFI, which at the time was the owner of Myer Stores. The Sidney Myer Fund is a substantial shareholder in MFI.
Proceeds from sales of Myer Stores over the last 90 years have positioned MFI to become a diversified investment house, and as such MFI is today the Myer family’s primary business.

While MFI has strong links to each, they are separate entities with their own governance and management structures.
The Sidney Myer Fund (SMF) and The Myer Foundation (TMF)
The Sidney Myer Fund and The Myer Foundation are two separate philanthropic entities of Myer family philanthropy. They are both managed by the same team and have separate but complementary philanthropic programs and activities.
Sidney Myer, a generous philanthropist in his lifetime, left a portion of his estate upon his death in 1934 to be invested for the benefit of the community in which he made his fortune. That act created the Sidney Myer Fund which exists in perpetuity and annually distributes income from the fund.
The Myer Foundation was established in 1959 by Sidney Myer’s sons, Kenneth Myer AC DSC, and Baillieu Myer AC, as a way to support initiatives and new opportunities arising from contemporary issues. The Myer Foundation was endowed through Kenneth Myer’s estate following his death in 1992.
The Sidney Myer Fund and The Myer Foundation continue the legacy of Myer family generosity, through members of four succeeding generations of the Myer family who give in many ways to make significant and lasting changes in our society.
